Thanks Lucy, whoever you are.

As part of my Resolutions: 2007 campaign, I resolved to go to the Union Square Greenmarket once a week — every week. The thing is, in the dead of winter, the Greenmarket’s somewhat of a crap shoot; you never really know what’s going to be there or if it’s even going to be worth the trip.

Fortunately, there’s Lucy’s Greenmarket Report.

Lucy, much to my seething envy, lives a mere two blocks from the Union Square Greenmarket, and slips out every Saturday morning (and in warmer months, she goes a couple times a week), scopes out what’s there, and reports back by the time I’m getting up and drinking my coffee.

Hearing about what’s there today not only allows me to think ahead as to what I can get there (instead of at the grocery store) it’s also really gets my ass in gear to get down there myself.

I mean, come on — check out today’s report: “D’Attolico has various greens and sprouts and other farmers have baby bok choi and tiny tomatoes.”

Tiny tomatoes! Can spring be far when there are tiny tomatoes to be had?

(Seriously, though, that question was rhetorical. Anyone who answers, “well, yeah” gets a weak, sunlight-deprived punch in the gut.)
