Why I Am A Bad Food Blogger: Part II

By Kristen | March 12, 2008

I have kept a draft titled Taste of Chinatown: Spring 2007 since, well, spring 2007.

Doesn’t seem especially blog-worthy now, does it?

Here’s the draft’s one highlight:

"Number 1"

Tasty Dumpling. Five completely perfect dumplings for one whole dollar.

best dumplings ever

And that is why I live in the best city on earth.

Tasty Dumpling in New York

Yes! This place is awesome. There’s also a similar place on Mosco street right around the corner called Fried Dumpling. I go back and forth on which I like better.

Although the dumplings are just as good in both places, I generally prefer Tasty Dumpling to Fried Dumpling because a.) they’ve got more than just pork/chive and b.) there’s more than 2 chairs.

Never too late to rave about excellent dumplings, though I am awfully envious. I no longer live in the best city in the world and I don’t have access to dumplings - waaaaah!

Have you ever made dumplings? I may try some next weekend when I’m not busy with early St. Patrick’s Day celebrations. I received The Food of China (Amazon link: http://tinyurl.com/2mhfqt) for Hallmark Day. I’ve been alternately staring at the cover and drooling this past month.

When I was in S.Korea, there were these booths between the (small) buildings and shops that sold food. They weren’t really kiosks, they were mounted into the store fronts, but there was just enough room in there for one man and a cooking surface. It was the best for when we were out drinking: take a break, cross the street, get a bag of fried potato slices or yakimandu or three BBQ skewers for two bucks. So freakin’ delicious, and I got to experience it during the era of my development when it didn’t matter whether it was bad for me or not. I wish there were something like that around here. If I ever swing out there again, please make sure to show me this place of which you speak, it sounds awesome.

You really came to visit at an unfortunate time when I had not yet discovered places like this.

Next time you (and your lovely soon-to-be wife) come to visit we will visit both this place AND Koreatown.
