First, the news: Marla S. has won Jonathan Waxman’s A Great American Cook: Recipes from the Home Kitchen of One of Our Most Influential Chefs! Hooray!
For those of you unfamiliar with Elizabeth David’s work, all I can say is: you are missing out on probably one of the best food writers of the 20th century.
I don’t even want to say too much about this book, because I kind of want whoever ends up with it be as delighted about it as I was the first time I read it, BUT just to give an idea of what reading Summer Cooking feels like… to me, it’s like you are finally getting to know that slightly older friend-of-a-friend whose seemingly effortless cooking ability has always intimidated you — only to find that not only is she willing to teach you what she knows, she’s actually really fun to talk to, and it gives you a sort of adolescent oh-man-she-is-so-totally-cool-I-can’t-wait-to-be-like-her fizzy feeling inside.
Maybe that’s just me.
Anyway! Don’t forget, you can’t win if you’re not a fan, so you haven’t already, drop by Facebook before next Thursday at noon to be entered.
